Engineer Meets Poet
Renowned architectural firm West 8 approached us to redesign their visual identity and website. Collaborating closely with their creative team, we developed an editorial and design approach to effectively communicate their esteemed legacy in landscape architecture, placemaking, and design. Through a series of workshops and thorough research, we crafted a visual identity that captures the essence of West 8, the architectural firm founded in 1987 by acclaimed Dutch landscape architect Adriaan Geuze. Drawing inspiration from the Dutch Design ethos, our strategy aimed to create a website that is clear, bold yet not overly serious, with a rich color palette. By incorporating playful, organic shapes inspired by West 8's floor plans, the brand identity embodies the firm's ethos of innovation, sustainability, and creativity.
We chose a recently designed font with a contemporary aesthetic. Our color selection was carefully curated to complement West 8 projects, ensuring harmony across the website. To enhance visual clarity and emphasize specific topics across different platforms, we supplemented this with contrasting and accentuating colors.
For the launch of the new website, we created campaign visuals to mark the occasion. These visuals feature playful organic shapes and incorporate the contrasting color orange to signify this milestone.
It was important for West 8 to preserve their original logo, which has been in use for over 35 years. However, we revised the color usage.
